About your device
Welcome to in-person payments with Paystack! Your Terminal is the easiest and fastest way to accept in-person payments from your customers.
Your device is a SmartPeak P1000 and runs on the latest Android software. With it, you can accept payments from multiple channels, including all local cards, USSD, and bank transfers. You can also integrate the device directly with your existing sales channels, such as your inventory and sales management systems.
Getting Started
Turning the device on/off
The power button for the Terminal is located on the left side of the device. Simply push and hold the power button for 3-5 seconds.
Setting up your device
Your device comes pre-configured with all the necessary settings. When you turn it on, it will take a moment to download and automatically set up your Paystack Terminal app.
Once this is done, you can start using your device immediately! All completed transactions will appear in real time on your Paystack Dashboard.
Device Status
A Terminal can either be active, inactive, or disabled. An inactive (a Terminal is considered inactive if it isn't used for 2 weeks) or disabled Terminal will be unable to collect payments.
You can see these statuses from the Terminal section on your dashboard. If you need help reactivating an inactive or disabled Terminal, please reach out to us via support@paystack.com.
The Paystack Terminal App
Your device comes with a built-in Terminal app. Once the device is turned on, the app should automatically open. If it doesn't, tap on the "Paystack POS" icon on the home screen.
Updating your app
We're constantly making enhancements and adding new features to our Terminal. When we do, we'll notify you so you can update the Paystack Terminal app.
To update your app to the most current version:
- Go to the Home screen of your app
- Tap the "App Store" app
- Once it launches, tap the "update" button next to the Paystack logo
- Wait for the update to download
- Once the update has finished downloading, tap the open button
All done! You now have the most up-to-date version of the Paystack Terminal app.
Accepting Payments
Your Paystack Terminal is designed to accept payments from the most popular card brands and payment channels in the world. It integrates seamlessly with your Paystack Dashboard, where you can see all transactions in real-time, get detailed reports, manage your customers, process refunds, and manage disputes.
Supported Payment Channels
Cards: Your Terminal accepts these domestic cards:
- Mastercard
- Visa
- Verve
USSD: Your Terminal accepts USSD payments from the following banks
- Guaranty Trust Bank
- Zenith Bank
- Sterling Bank
Transfer: Your Terminal accepts payments via bank transfer.
For this, a Wema or Zenith Bank virtual account number that lasts for 30 minutes is generated for a customer to transfer money. Most customers make bank transfers from their bank's mobile app or dial their bank's USSD shortcut on their phones.
Once they do, the transaction is automatically approved on the Terminal and recorded like every other transaction on the Terminal and on the Paystack Dashboard. To learn more about our "Pay with Transfer" channel, see Pay with Transfer.
Supervisor Functions
Your Terminal allows you to perform advanced functions, such as the ability to generate printouts of all transactions in a day.
These functions are embedded in the Settings menu and can only be accessed using your Paystack username and password.
(Note: you must be an Administrator to access supervisor functions)
